CLASS DESCRIPTION Enroll Now
Delicate, lady-like, and wonderfully practical for any period outfit.
A parasol was a coveted item in a lady's wardrobe.
In this four lesson class, we will examine photos of period parasols in my collection
and others, along with articles in lady's magazines of the Victorian and Edwardian era;
we will take a look at some helpful hints on dating the parasols and umbrellas.
Then using techniques I used to recreate parasols for the movies "Cold Mountain" and "Legend of
Zorro"-
(see
those parasols here)
I'll walk you through how to turn those perfectly awful nylon monstrosities sold by every sutler,
into a beautiful "period-correct" accessory- to match any outfit you choose!
Reworking the handles, ferrules, tips and lining will be covered!
Resources for fabrics, handle materials, frames and more are listed!
And finally, we will discuss the restoration of period parasols-
when to restore and when not to restore.
(Even how to take a vintage parasol and make it look like a "period" parasol)
How to make a pattern for your parasol, even if the original has no cover left!
