A Victorian Lady:
Make Your Own Early Bustle Era Bodice
CLASS DESCRIPTION
We will construct a basic early bustle era bodice (1868-1874) using Shooting Star
History's Pattern.
This bodice is a simple front closing style with 5 basic pattern pieces-
Bodice front, side-back and back, and upper and lower coat sleeve.
It can be made in a basque or waist length and options include a cap sleeve for earlier era,
a fashionable sash, neckline ruffle. Pattern price $16 plus postage found at Shooting Star History.
This is a very basic pattern style for the early bustle era and
relatively easy to assemble.
It is suggested that the student have some sewing experience before
taking this class because of the curved seamlines at the bodice back.
The class will discuss choosing appropriate and fashionable fabrics,
trim, lining, and buttons; cutting a muslin and adapting it to fit perfectly,
and sewing construction of the bodice.
As a Bonus, we will also discuss how to change the pattern for more variation
- working with a doll size sloper(will fit 18" dolls)
You may also choose to use your full size pattern if you wish-
we will discuss, bodice bottom edge, sleeve shapes and necklines for day and evening
We will also explain how to combine this pattern with our skirt pattern to make a one piece day dress
Marna Jean will be there every step of the way to discuss fitting difficulties,
fancy and plain options for the bodice to suit your character,
and how to recognize a "correct" pattern of this era.
