Parasols for Cold Mountain

When I was contacted to make some parasols for the filming of the Movie Cold Mountain, we had to do in depth research in a hurry. We were told they needed to be mostly neutral colors and they would be used in the Charleston scene.
I researched ebay and antique sellers and my own collection to glean various ideas for the period, and set about trying to replicate them in less than a month.
The dupioni was seen on original 1860's parasol, and the copper colored parasol is the exact shade of one in my own collection.
In all a total of 8 parasols were constructed, unfortunately they are nearly all fairly far in the background!
We also made parasols for Legends of Zorro!

This one shows up best in the movie right at the beginning of scene 9 - Back to Cold Mountain

The tan silk twill is at left toward the bottom
