Allie- 1876-1881
Work or summer gown

This pattern is based on an original in my collection, and options are taken from ideas from other period gowns as well as pattern catalogs. This pattern can be easily adapted for any season by choice of fabric, but the original was meant as a summer gown with its ¾ length sleeves, and unlined bodice. It would have been easily washed, and the slight flounces and self bias trim would hold up well when laundered. It was what would be known during the natural form period as an easy fitting basque, or simply by leaving the dart out- a "half fitting sacque"

Visit our library for a page that shows and tells about the original garment in our collection.

More information on sunbonnet history
Victorian Sunbonnet Pattern
3 styles based on illustrations in vintage Butterick catalogs, along with my studies of original bonnet shapes, give you a pattern that will suffice the working woman through most of the victorian era. These 3 bonnets follow the "feel" of the prevailing style: the early bustle era bonnet (View A- 1872) is a fuller style and a bit more "fussy" than the bonnets that would follow- its style looks perfect with the fuller sleeves, and rounder shape of this period. The natural form era bonnet(View B-1878) is a slender style with little fullness, emphasizing long lines with the flow of the bavolet. The view C bonnet (1850-85) pattern was released in 1880 but dates much further back and is the simplest bonnet of all of them, with a fold back brim showing the more practical nature woman was beginning to take when designing her work clothing.

Ostrich Feather Aigrette

Lovely finishing touch for that Evening gown or Lady of the Evening. We have gone straight to the source for these feathers, washed, dyed and curled them ourselves. The natural color variations of the feathers makes a beautiful depth of color. First we take 5-7 prepared feathers and then, We add coordinating beads, and bind them all with a velveteen wrap.

The ultimate in hair accessories.
