Edwardian Dresses 1900 - 1910

A Reception
circa 1905

Reception gown in silver embroidered silk organza and china silk, trimmed in black velvet. This gown was made for my mother to wear to the cowboy christmas ball. We searched all over for an appropriate neckline for an evening gown, that would also hide the scar from her recent heart surgery. When there it was on my favorite site antiquedress.com in the museum section. I wanted something very special for the sleeves as well so I combined two patterns from 1905 resulting in a shirred sleeve with a handkerchief point flounce.

Walking Suit 1906

Made of a medium weight Cotton plaid in plum, taupe and blue, the ideas for this walking suit came from 1906 McCalls magazine, and my Works's Garment Cutter. The style is easy wearing and not as tight as some gowns from that time frame. Box pleats front and back, "western style" yokes, and a velveteen collar and large brown shell buttons finish the look. the skirt is 7 gore with pleated insets, on all but the front, of graduated heights. While the front insets are only about knee high, the back ones reach about mid thigh.
