Edwardian Dresses 1900 - 1910

A Ballgown
circa 1900

The Original Worth Gown

The challenge of this dress was finding fabrics somewhat similar. I finally settled on an embroidered ivory net lace, pale grey acetate taffeta, and a floral upholstery fabric that was a cotton/rayon blend. The original would date between the late 1890's and 1905.

Wedding/Evening Gown 1908
This gown was based on a later style (titanic) with an earlier skirt flare- dating the dress to about 1908 when the softly flared skirt with the empire waist was the fashion rage. The dress itself is made from 4 kinds of silk- gauze, floral weave chiffon, china silk, and a jacquard silk for the sash. The skirt has 2 layers of silk gauze, with 2 petal overlayers- one in silk gauze and one in the patterned silk. the gauze sleeves are shirred and sewn over a tulle foundation to maintain their shape. The veil is also silk gauze.
The lovely bride- Jessica, belongs to the same online ladies group I do- and is a talented web designer. Check out her site at Sunset House
