Early Bustle Era Dresses 1868-1876
The following are examples of some of my designs from this era.

At Home Dress
Early 1870's

Early 1870's Day/House Dress

This simple dress is made from a striped cotton and features a gored skirt with fullness at the back, a demi-train, and bias cut, box pleated ruffles. It is made very simply with coat style sleeves and extends below the waistline to form vest points in the front and a peplum in the back. The peplum has a deep box pleat to allow a bustle to be worn with this dress if desired.

A Visiting Dress
circa 1875

A stylish but simple dress from the early bustle era, this was modeled after a polonaise in the 1872 Butterick pattern catalog. This was one of my early dresses featured in my horseshoes line.

A Ballgown- circa 1870

A bright ballgown for a famous Madam- Using a photo of Madame Moustache- Eleanore DuMont and a fashion plate from the same era (1870) I created this striking gown. It is raspberry china silk accented with puffing and black bouillon fringe. It was modified for extra fullness, as the customer will be using the dress in parades while riding horseback. A tape and elastic arrangement at the back keeps the overskirt in place and creates the bustle effect of the early 1870's
