Bustle Era Dresses 1881-1889

1881 Day Dress
In a Cotton Sateen

Made for a Church Centennial Celebration, the bodice is taken from a extant butterick pattern catalog in my collection of antique catalogs. The underskirt is cut simply and flat contrast fabric trim adds interest to the seperate overskirt, which provides its own bustle.

1885 Green Velvet
Reception Gown

Deep green velvet and black fringe are highlighted with beaded accents, czech glass buttons with gold overlay, and shot taffeta lining and piping

1883 Silk Charmuse Wedding Gown

Natural White Silk charmuse drapes softly and is accented by knife pleated white silk organza- the skirt has adjustable ties in the back so that the train may be shortened to dancing length. This ultra simple but oh so elegant dress has many small details like hand buttonholed eyelets, double piping, and front dagging detail on the skirt.
