Polonaise 1889 A striking polonaise in a burgandy sateen stripe. It was based on a

Bustle Era Dresses 1881-1889

The fabric was special order and took quite some time to arrive! The trim is a heavy venice lace, black velvet
and simple beading, instead of the heavy beading and embroidery shown on the original- this was done to save cost.
This dress was built from ground up including all of the undergarments which included a very feminine silk corset
cover and overpetticoat! My maniquin was not really tall enough for the customer so you will see a few wrinkles
at the waistline on these pics. The sleeves are full length instead of 3/4 length shown on the original by request
of the customer.
The front of the polonaise has a hidden button closure on the fully fitted lining under a gracefully shirred front
panel. this is highlighted by the use of the heavy lace.
Ballgown
Moss green Bengaline moire, ivory/white brocade, accented by silk gauze,
and bead highlighted boulion fring make an elegant evening gown for a dance. The pleated drapes cut on the bias
curve around the shoulders and fall to a flattering point at front, The bodice is fitted and laces in the back
with hand stitched eyelets. The skirt is built on its own foundation so no extra bustle is required , and it falls
in soft poufs to make resting between dances more comfortable. It has a small train which can be bustled up shorter
if desired by shortening the bustle ties underneath the skirt.
