Carmen's Capote

Shannon and Her Straw bonnet

A capote in blue velvet from Shannon
comments from Shannon...
I loved this class from start to finish. It excited me and inspired me so
much! Although I have to admit that I initially wanted to take the class for
the hatmaking section, I learned so many valuable things about underpinnings - why they were worn and how to construct my own. I now have proper drawers, a chemise, a petticoat, and I have wonderful instructions on how to construct my own custom-fit corset. The hat and bonnet section was more than I could have hoped for. I can now make a hat or bonnet for each and every outfit that I have, or any outfit that I make in the future! Marna Jean is so knowledgable and so helpful. I really got frustrated with my capote bonnet. I just didn't quite know how I wanted to embellish it. I posted a question for Marna Jean on the message board and she got right back to me with photo references, and now I have a bonnet that I'm very happy with. The message board is also great because fellow classmates post questions and suggestions of their own. I've learned so much and plan on taking more classes with Marna Jean in the future. Thanks for a great class! It was too much fun!

Dana's Red Velvet Capote (very popular in the mid 1880's)
The class was so fun. My wheels are spinning as I see junky thrift store hats in a new light, armed with the information Marna Jean taught us. Thanks Marna Jean for all you've taught us. Can't wait for more! - Dana
